Topic of Interest: ENGL-6401
By Rachel Baldwin
To begin, I have been interested in the topic of religious freedom and/or Christian persecution since before this class started. I was really hoping to springboard this topic into a thesis paper. As I began the assigned reading for Chapter One, I began to think about where this topic might fit it. I resolved that it might be appropriate for Postmodern Research using a Critical Theory Methodology. However, after reading the first two articles, I'm a little more confused and feel like I need additional guidance. In the second article, I was encouraged by digital composition and the fact that digital humanities (social sciences) and English scholars are used for diversification and reflection for writing scholars. If I need to move more into a technical communication realm, I will, but I think I need help. :)
Goal: Find out if religious freedom is being oppressed; show/demonstrate examples, compare history; reveal assumptions and hidden agendas
ReplyDeleteRQ: Is religious freedom being oppressed?
Type: Type of research goal - postmodern
Method: Critical Theory
Hi Rachel,
ReplyDeleteGood preliminary ideas so far!! And thanks for posting your initial goal, research question, etc. under the comment box. Yes, a postmodern lens for this topic is appropriate as you reveal hidden agendas and/or aim to empower the disenfranchised.
To put this topic within the frame of TWDR, maybe you can choose a specific type of document and a specific context (e.g., websites, brochures, etc. within the context of ______ ) that show such persecution and analyze it from a rhetorical/theoretical framework.
Of course, other research angles for this topic are also possible. Feel free to start plowing through some scholarly articles for ideas on rhetorical/theoretical frameworks in the analysis of documents (I'll also introduce the Lit. Review writing assignment #1 next week).
Once you're ready to brainstorm some more, let me know and maybe we can set a brief meeting to talk about it, ok? Am here.... =))
